MANUFACTURING PLANT IN HOWICKThe rubber industry in Southern Africa was pioneered by the South African Rubber Manufacturing Company Limited, now known as Dunlop Belting Products. Its main factory is located on the banks of the Mgeni River in Kwa-Zulu Natal. In 1929 the manufacture of conveyor belting commenced. Dunlop Belting Products has kept pace with technological advances in this field and now manufactures a full range of conveyor belting products for the world market.
The conveyor belting range includes PowaCORD, steel cord reinforced conveyor belting, in which belts up to strengths of 5400 kN/m and widths up to 2200 mm (about 7.22 ft) are manufactured. PowaPLY is an all-synthetic EP and EE multiply carcass belt with a range of cover qualities in a full range of strengths up to 3150 kN/m manufactured as well. The range of rubber hose products manufactured at the Dunlop Belting Products facility in Howick includes textile-reinforced hoses which are used extensively in mining and other industries, vacuum brake hoses, used in the braking systems of older rail wagons, and a variety of other applications.
